SOME REALTORS® ADD VALUE BY OFFERING REBATES / CASH BACK
As the competition for real estate clients heats up, consumers are turning to agents that add value to their services by offering their Buyer Clients part of the commission they earn when they represent them in the purchase of their home or investment property.
A recent article on the CBC News website by Sophia Harris explains how real estate buyers are using the internet and the vast assortment of real estate related websites to do much of the work to find the property they want to buy that traditionally would have been done by their REALTOR®. As a result, the consumer is receptive to (and sometimes expects to) receive part of the Commission that is earned by the buyer’s real estate agent.
CanadianMoneyInHandAlthough many agents are very reluctant to “share” their commission with their buyer clients, some of the more innovative REALTORS® are actively promoting their Cash Back or Commission Rebate offerings as a way to retain some of their past clients and gain some new ones. The traditional REALTOR® or real estate Brokerage is facing greater competition and the ones that are willing to change and provide greater Value Added services are the ones that will thrive in this new, more competitive environment.

When Rouah does buy a property, his agent will give him a rebate: 15 per cent of the agent’s 2.5 per cent commission that’s paid by the seller. Rouah says it’s a fair deal considering the process is a “combined effort.”……
